Fun friday - sunday

I was thinking about what I wanted to post from this past weekend, and realized I had pictures from every day. Friday I had a little Sex and the City viewing get together, so some gals and I happily made some cosmos and snacks while we watched the movie, most of us for the first time. Definitely worth seeing--lots of laughs, and some tears, too. Saturday we went to DJ & Pam's wedding (and I don't have any pictures of them--oops), where strangely, I took few pictures. Honestly, though, 2 nights of being up late really did me in and by Sunday, my cold had really knocked me over. I went with Katie & some of our other friends to the Buddy Walk, and it turned out to be a really beautiful day. The sun was glorious out on the lake, a great reminder of why we live in this godforsaken cold city. Thanks again to all of you who donated!

Peacemaker

Last week my friend Jen and I had the great pleasure of going to see Greg Mortenson, who is on a national book tour for his NY Times bestseller, Three Cups of Tea. He spoke to a packed auditorium and received a standing ovation before he even gave his presentation. We read this book for book club, and not everyone was really that jazzed about it. Yes, the writing was a bit disconnected due to its retelling, but the message of the text is really powerful. He also mentioned several other grassroots organizations whose contributions are immeasureable to women and children in these countries. Every teacher in America should try and make it to his presentation! He is well-spoken and has strong opinions about how to improve the quality of life based on his personal experiences. It kind of puts the stressors we face in everyday life kind of insignificant.
