the pride of home ownership

Okay, let me preface this whiny diatribe with a note of thankfulness: we are lucky to own a home and certainly to have a roof over our head. That being said, we were a bit stressed Tuesday night when our toilet completely bit the dust when a bolt broke and the tank cracked. It was quiet and we were heading to bed when we heard a strange noise, like a glass breaking. We walked into the bathroom and there was water GUSHING out of the bottom of the tank onto the floor. I ran upstairs to the closet to grab as many towels as I could, even stopping in the basement to get the dirty ones that were dry. Meanwhile, Corey was trying to wedge his head and arm behind the tank to tighten the bolt, which just proceeded to crack even more. Then he cut his hand and proceeded to get blood all over the bathroom (poor guy). The water gushing out happened again Wednesday morning. I was not exactly in a good mood when I arrived at work. We are waiting for his dad to come down so he can teach us how to install a toilet. I am sure we could learn on our own, but we want to make sure we do it right, of course. We can actually laugh about it now, which is a test of the mishaps of home ownership and how couples keep on movin'!

Glad to hear you can laugh about it now because I would have been ready to pull my hair out. Enjoy the installation! You know you'll do it right so you don't have to go through that headache again!

Toilets are great until the break!!! Adam was trying to fix ours once and he ended up breaking the tank. He walked down the stairs to the living room with half the tank in his hand and said, "well I think we have a bigger problem now." I turned to look at him like what now, and there was half our toilet in his hand!!! Good luck putting it in.
